Liberty Gold Set 1838 - 1907

The first coins in this historic series were minted before the Civil War, back in 1838. While there are many ways to collect U.S. gold coins, most collectors and investors begin building sets with the $20 denomination. Later, they add the smaller gold coins in the series as funds permit.

Widely regarded as investment vehicles, Liberty Gold Sets have proven to command substantial premiums over gold bullion during past bull markets in rare coins. Today, we suggest you get started with the affordable "Popular Dates" and later add rarer dates as resources permit.

Rare $3 Gold Coinage

The $3 Indian Princess was minted to facilitate 100 count purchases of 3 cent stamps at the Post Office in the mid-1800’s. Public demand was far less than expected, and over the next 35 years, a mere 525,000 total business strikes were ever minted. Today, the $3 Gold Indian Princess is one of the rarest and most sought-after of all designs in U.S. coinage.

Rare $1 Gold Coinage

The U.S. Mint struck the first $1 (Type I) gold pieces from 1849 through 1854 during the California Gold Rush Days. These were minted at Philadelphia and the Pre-Civil War Southern Mints of New Orleans, Charlotte, and Dahlonega. From 1854 to 1856, the "Small Head" Type II Indian design was introduced. Finally, the Type III version with a larger head was minted from 1856 through 1889 at the Philadelphia Mint.
