Austin Rare Coins & Bullion is proud to offer the stunning "America the Beautiful" - 5 oz Great Smoky Mountain Silver Quarter-Dollar Coins struck in very limited quantities from the United States Mint.
This release is one of the most talked about U.S. Mint Bullion products and are expected to sell out quickly.
Between 2010 - 2021, The United States Mint plans to issue 56 pure Silver Quarter-Dollar Coins. Each coin will feature designs honoring historic National Parks and National Sites from all 50 United States, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Great Smoky Mountian coin will mark the twenty first in the series and first for 2014. The Great Smoky Mountains National Forest located in Tennessee, is said to be the most visited park in the nation. Elevation in the park ranges from 800 feet to over 6,000 feet, making 800 miles of mountain trails. Found on the reverse is a design that shows a historic log cabin found within Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It features a forest and a hawk circling above. Inscriptions will include GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS, TENNESSEE, 2014 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Each coin in the series features a common obverse with the 1932 portrait of George Washington by John Flanagan, which was restored to bring out the subtle details and the beauty of the original portrait. Each coins is inscripted with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, AND QUARTER DOLLAR.
These new commemoratives are .999 fine Silver coins that weigh 5 ounces and are 3 inches in diameter.
Current U.S. circulated quarters weigh in at a mere 0.2 ounces and are just shy of an inch in diameter and contain no actual Silver. Standard quarters also have 119 reeds on their edge. The 5 oz Silver Quarter-Dollar Coins will not be reeded, but instead flat with incused edge lettering featuring the coins fineness and weight.
The America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins will be distributed exactly like the American Silver Eagles, which are the only other Silver Bullion Coins issued by the Mint. The U.S. Mint will not be selling these directly, so check back with Austin Rare Coins & Bullion for availability. Orders of 10 come in Mint Tubes.
