10 oz. - 2018 Australian Silver Koala

Be the first to review this product

The impressive and rare Ten Ounce Australian Silver Koala piedfort coin is one of the most exciting releases from the Perth Mint in many years. We love the value of these newly-issued silver masterpieces---we're told that no more than 2,000 of these were issued and they sold out before dealers could get their hands on them. Luckily we locked-in 100 of them but they're going fast.
Piedfort comes from the French word “pied-fort”, which translates to heavy weight. It is used to describe a specially issued coin which is thicker and heavier than the usual specifications. Each coin comes in a specially-designed hard plastic capsule to protect the fine details of each coin.

Austin Rare Coins & Bullion BBB Business Review

When early European settlers first encountered koalas in Australia, they thought the tree-climbing animals were monkeys or bears. Even though they're still referred to by some as "koala bears", they're actually marsupials like kangaroos and wombats.

The reverse of the coin depicts a koala clinging to the branch of a eucalyptus tree with her baby on her back. Also included is the year, weight, and the traditional Perth Mint "P" mintmark.

The obverse portrays the Ian Rank-Broadley likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
