2020-P "Emergency Issue" Silver American Eagle MS-69 Quality
When the US Mint at West Point shut down operations due to Covid-19 in April of 2020, a very limited amount of silver eagles (240,000 to be exact) were struck at the mint in Philadelphia between April 8th and April 20th. Referred to as an "Emergency Issue" by mint officials, these coins have been dispersed into the marketplace and are quickly becoming a highly sought-after modern-day issue.
Austin Rare Coins was lucky to get our hands on a few cases of the Emergency Issue Silver Eagles and we're offering them today while our supplies last. This numismatic rarity is due to the emergency shift in production and like most modern issues of this importance, we expect their price to increase considerably in coming years.
These Emergency Issue Silver Eagles have the 2nd lowest mintage in the 35-year series, trailing the 2015 Philly issue--which trades for ten times the price of these 2020 coins. We're offering them today at special introductory pricing certified by NGC in Mint State 69 condition with the First Strike designation on the holder. We'll start shipping orders in late-May as soon as the coins return from NGC.
The only way to certify the 2020 Emergency issues is by submitting sealed cases to the grading services. Cases are specifically labelled between #'s 400,000 and 400,479, with these numbers handwritten by mint workers on the exterior of the mint cases. Once these cases are opened, there is no way to discern between 2020 West Point or Philadelphia Minted issues.
