The US Mint typically issues two versions of American Silver Eagles, a Business Strike (or BU) and a Proof. Both contain one-ounce of silver, but the Proof coins can easily be distinguished from their BU counterparts due to their beautiful, two-toned glossy/matte appearance.
Their limited mintage, West Point (W) mint-mark, high-end eye appeal, and custom US Mint display boxes combine to make Proof American Eagles substantially more valuable than the BU versions and are popular with investors and enthusiasts alike.
