1821 Mexico 8 Reale "Hispan" | NGC | MS 62 Plus

The 1821 Mexico 8 Reale "Hispan" in Mint State 62 Plus, available at Austin Rare Coin & Bullion, is a fascinating piece of Mexican history. This coin was minted in Zacatecas, one of the most important mining centers in Mexico, during the first year of Mexico's independence from Spain. The obverse of the coin features the bust of a young Ferdinand VII, with a laurel wreath around his head. On the reverse, there is a crowned emblem with four quadrants: two castles on the left and two lions on the right, with pillars on either side and a crown at the top. The inscription "HISPAN" and "HITIND. REX Z" surround the emblem.

This coin represents a pivotal moment in Mexican history, as it was minted during the transition from Spanish colonial rule to Mexican independence. The 8 Reale denomination was widely used in commerce throughout the Americas and was considered the "silver dollar" of the world during the 19th century. The Mint State 62 Plus grade indicates that this particular coin is in excellent condition, with only minor imperfections visible under close inspection. As such, it would make a valuable addition to any collection of Mexican or world coins.
