2027 1/4-oz Gold British Britannia
The Royal Mint builds four layered anti-counterfeit features directly into every Gold Britannia, making the series one of the most secure bullion programs struck anywhere. Each of these 2027 Britannias hold a quarter troy ounce of .9999 fine gold and legal tender status in the United Kingdom with a face value of 25 Pounds. The Britannia program began in 1987 and moved to .9999 purity in 2013, and these are struck in brilliant uncirculated quality at the Royal Mint in Llantrisant, Wales.
The obverse carries the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings, surrounded by the legend CHARLES III D G REX F D 25 POUNDS. On the reverse is Philip Nathan's standing Britannia, helmeted and draped, with a trident in one hand and the Union shield at her side. The inscriptions BRITANNIA, the date, 1/4 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD run around the rim, while the field behind her carries the Royal Mint security set: a wave pattern that animates as the coin tilts, fine tincture lines, micro-text, and a latent image.
Philip Nathan's Britannia has been in continuous use since 1987, and that long run has made the design instantly familiar to dealers and investors on both sides of the Atlantic. The quarter-ounce size gives gold buyers a smaller unit to trade or gift without committing to a full ounce, and .9999 purity backed by a sovereign mint keeps these easy to resell. If you are adding fractional government-minted gold to a stack, Gold Britannias are a dependable and widely traded choice.
