AD 69 Otho Silver Denarius Securitas NGC About Uncirculated 4x2

This silver denarius was issued during the brief reign of Emperor Otho in AD 69, the turbulent Year of the Four Emperors that followed Nero's death. Otho ruled for just three months before his defeat and suicide, making his coinage exceptionally scarce in the numismatic marketplace. The political chaos of this period produced some of the most historically significant and sought-after issues in Roman imperial coinage.
The obverse displays Otho's distinctive portrait with curly hair and beard, encircled by the legend IMP OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P. The reverse features Securitas standing left, holding a wreath and scepter, with the legend SECVRITAS P R around the border. Both sides exhibit well-defined details with clear legends and strong relief despite the coin's age and circulation.
NGC has graded this denarius AU with a strike rating of 4/5 and surface rating of 2/5, reflecting good preservation for this historically important but short-lived emperor. The coin shows attractive dark patina with bold portrait features and readable inscriptions. Otho denarii remain among the most challenging imperial Roman coins to acquire due to his extremely brief reign. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
