Caracalla ruled the Roman Empire from AD 198 to 217, initially as co-emperor with his father Septimius Severus and later as sole ruler following his brother Geta's murder. This silver denarius dates from his reign and was struck at the Rome mint, the principal facility producing imperial coinage during the Severan dynasty. The coin is certified by NGC Ancients with an About Uncirculated grade and carries the SPQR Collection pedigree.

The obverse presents a laureate portrait of Caracalla facing right, rendered with characteristic Severan realism that captures the emperor's distinctive features and intense expression. The surrounding legend identifies him with his imperial titles. The reverse depicts a standing female figure, likely representing one of the personified virtues commonly featured on Caracalla's coinage, rendered with clear detail and good definition.

This example displays well-preserved surfaces with attractive old cabinet toning and sharp device definition appropriate for the grade. The About Uncirculated designation indicates minimal wear to the high points while retaining much of the original detail. Denarii of Caracalla remain popular among collectors of Roman imperial coinage, offering accessible examples from one of history's more notorious emperors.  We have several examples available similar to the coin pictured here.
