AD 37-41 Caligula Silver Denarius NGC Choice Extremely Fine

This silver denarius was struck during the brief and turbulent reign of Emperor Caligula (AD 37-41), one of Rome's most notorious rulers. Minted in Rome during the early years of his principate, this denarius represents the imperial coinage of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Caligula's reign marked a period of extravagance and political instability that would ultimately lead to his assassination.
The obverse displays a well-struck portrait of the young emperor facing right, with his distinctive curled hair and imperial features clearly defined. The legend CALIGVLA AVGVSTVS surrounds the portrait in bold relief. The reverse shows Agrippina Senior, Caligula's mother, depicted as a standing figure with accompanying legend, honoring his deceased mother who was the widow of Germanicus.
This example has been certified by NGC as Choice Extremely Fine, showing excellent detail preservation with attractive natural toning. The surfaces display the characteristic silver patina expected of ancient Roman coinage, with strong device definition throughout. This denomination remains highly sought after by collectors of Roman imperial coinage. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
