AD 69 Otho Silver Denarius NGC Choice Fine 4x4

This silver denarius was issued during the brief but pivotal reign of Emperor Otho in AD 69, known as the Year of the Four Emperors. Otho ruled for only three months before his defeat and suicide, making his coinage among the rarest in Roman imperial history. This denarius represents one of the few tangible remnants of his short-lived attempt to stabilize the empire during this turbulent period.
The obverse features a well-detailed portrait of Otho facing right with the legend IMP OTHO CAESAR AVG, showing clear facial features despite circulation. The reverse depicts Securitas standing left, holding a wreath and scepter, with the legend SECVRITAS PR, symbolizing the security and stability Otho sought to restore to the empire. The strike shows good detail for the type with even wear across both surfaces.
NGC has graded this example as Choice Fine, accurately reflecting the moderate circulation while preserving essential design elements and legends. The coin displays attractive grayish patina typical of ancient silver with no significant surface issues. Otho denarii remain highly sought after by collectors of Roman imperials due to their historical significance and relative scarcity. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
