Ancient Persian Empire Coins

After defeating King Croesus of Lydia, the Persian empire embraced the monetary system of the conquered king and began to issue their own coins using a new design. From roughly 550 B.C. to 330 B.C., the Persians issued four primary design types struck in both gold and silver.
