Gold Krugerrand | South Africa
First introduced in 1967, shortly after South Africa declared it's independence, the Krugerrand was essentially the first gold bullion coin available to individual investors inspiring the various gold coins made around the world today. Even with this global competition, the South African Krugerrand remains extremely popular.
The Krugerrand got its name from Paul Kruger, the first elected president of the South African Republic, and the African denomination, Rand. Kruger's likeness adorns the obverse of the coin while the national animal of South Africa, the springbok antelope, is shown on the reverse.
