This Eastern Roman Empire Coin was struck between 457-474 AD, during reign of the Eastern Roman Emperor Leo I. Leo was an ambitious political and military planner who aided the faltering Western Roman Empire to help recover its former territories. He is also remembered as the first eastern emperor to legislate in Greek rather than Latin.
