More than 200 Million Morgan Dollars Destroyed Forever

In 1918 after the passage of the Pittman Act more than 200 Million Morgan Silver Dollars were ordered to be melted into silver bars to be sold to Britain. This helped replenish Britain's stockpiles of silver while simultaneously acting as a subsidy to the mining industry in the United States. The Pittman Act played a large role in making even the most common of Morgan Dollars a lot scarcer than other Silver Dollars.
