From time to time, we come across a group of world coins that are just too good to pass up. In this case, we have some 210-year-old, large French silver coins available after decades of storage in a Paris bank vault—and they are absolutely stunning!
These blast-white, shimmering silver coins, which range from Mint State 61 through Mint State 63, are far nicer in hand than these images convey.
These large French silver “crowns” have a denomination of Five Francs, and this particular design was issued over 200 years ago from 1811 to 1814. Each coin is about the size of a silver dollar and contains .7234 ounces of pure silver. Between PCGS and NGC combined, only 250 are known in all grades. These are certainly among the finest examples known, and we think they are absolutely solid values in today’s market.
The obverse shows a regal portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte facing right, adorned with a laurel wreath. The back depicts a wreath encircling the denomination (five francs). All bear the “A” mintmark, as they originated from the Paris Mint. The iconic portrait of Napoleon, along with their large size and beauty make these a great coin for the money, in our opinion.
Supplies are VERY limited, so order early to avoid disappointment.
