Over 2,300 years ago, Alexander the Great ruled most of the known world and is one of the greatest kings and conquerors history has ever recorded. Tutored by Aristotle and the son of Philip II of Macedon, Alexander became King at 20 and conquered the Persian
empire at only 26 years old.
Today, his coinage is testament
to his importance and lasting impact on civilization. While gold coins issued by Alexander start at several thousand dollars each, his silver coins, called Tetradrachms (pronounced "drahms") are large, surprisingly affordable, beautiful and impressive.
Containing nearly ¾ of an ounce of pure silver, these hefty coins are undoubtedly one of the most important coins of the entire Greek period.

The obverse bears an image of a youthful, beardless Hercules wearing a lion's scalp. As a result of archaeological discoveries, many historians have come to agree that the obverse portrait of Hercules is indeed modeled after Alexander himself.
The reverse of all Tetradrachms depict a partially draped Zeus seated on a throne, holding an eagle in his right hand and a staff in his left. The reverse legend reads, "of King Alexander" and there are various symbols that show where the coin was minted.
Tetradrachms of Alexander the Great became the international world currency and were struck at as many as 75 mints from 336 B.C. until around 70 B.C. The earliest coins are the most desirable today, particularly those struck during his lifetime or shortly thereafter.
In the book entitled, "100 Greatest Ancient Coins", coin experts have ranked these as #20 out of the 100 greatest Ancient coins.
While we normally have one or two to offer at any given time, we recently acquired a trove of early Alexander Tetradrachms held by an Italian Museum for the last several hundred years. We are thrilled to offer them to our clients as they are all over 2,300 years old, certified in various grades by NGC Ancients, and sealed in thick NGC slabs to forever protect their intricate details.
This is the only hoard we have ever encountered. Given the recent strength of the Ancient coin market, we are completely comfortable recommending them to our client base at the following prices.
Pictures shown are solid indications of the quality you can expect to receive for each grade level. We have eight different grades and prices available, and we have NEVER been able to offer these important historical coins with such depth and at these low prices.
