Historic Law Passed in China to Affect Chinese Silver & Gold Pandas
China recently passed a law that makes the Metric System the only legal and recognized form of weights and measures in the country.
As a result, the 2015 Silver and Gold Pandas will have weights, purity, and metallic content removed from the coins altogether. This new, simplistic design already has collectors on the hunt and supplies are getting tight.
From the Bank of China:
"Commencing from 2015, according to the People's Republic of China "Measurement Law" and the People's Bank of China's requirement, gold and silver coins will be issued under the legal measurement of Metric System, i.e. grams, Kilogram,etc. The issuance of the gold and silver coins under the measurement of the Imperial System "Ounce" will be discontinued. Furthermore, from 2015 onwards, the weight of the Chinese Panda coins will no longer be stated on the coins.
