Augustus Gold Aureus Choice X3 VF-4

This fantastic gold aureus of Emeperor Augustus has been preserved in near mint condition over the past 2,000 years. Struck at Lugdunum, it highlights the emperor's dynastic ambitions through the portraits of his adopted heirs.

The obverse depicts the emperor facing right in lifelike fashion while the reverse depicts Gaius and Lucius Caesar standing as designated heirs, each holding a spear and a shield.

This is a far rarer reverse image than is found on most Augustus gold coinage and is highly desirable, as a result.

Certified by NGC in Choice Very Fine with strong detail (Strike 4/5, Surface 3/5), this specimen balances attractive artistry with tangible links to Rome’s imperial succession.  This is an extremely important coin priced in range of many advanced collectors.
