1861-O Half Dollar Confederate Issue from the SS Republic

This 1861 New Orleans Mint silver half dollar is not only certified as a Confederate-Issue, but it also was recovered from the 1865 S.S. Republic shipwreck. Graded Shipwreck Effect by NGC, it has been verified as one of the few coins struck while the US Mint at New Orleans was under the control of the Confederacy at the beginning of the Civil War.

Even though it laid at the bottom of the ocean for nearly 150 years, the coin has remarkable, mint condition details on the obverse.  The reverse, however, clearly shows sign of saltwater exposure.
