Roughly 220,920 silver dollars left the Philadelphia Mint in 1800, and a large share of them sailed overseas in trade or went to the melting pot for their silver. Draped Bust dollar production stopped altogether a few years later, so the survivors from this date form a closed group that never grows. This dollar comes from the Heraldic Eagle type, the design early American merchants and banks actually handled. Circulated examples that escaped cleaning, damage, and heavy wear are the ones advanced collectors chase.

Robert Scot's Draped Bust portrait fills the obverse, with Liberty facing right, her hair tied by a ribbon and drapery gathered at the bust. Thirteen stars flank the portrait while LIBERTY arches above and the bold 1800 date sits below. The reverse carries the heraldic eagle with a striped shield on its breast, an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other. A ribbon reading E PLURIBUS UNUM crosses above the eagle, with thirteen stars and clouds beneath the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

PCGS graded this dollar XF-40, a level that keeps strong central detail on Liberty's hair and the eagle's shield. The surfaces show even gray patina with lighter silver highlights around the devices, and the wear is smooth and consistent across both sides. Full rims and clear lettering give the coin honest, original eye appeal for an early dollar that spent real time in commerce. Extremely Fine is a grade many collectors target for this type, since it balances sharp detail against the cost of Mint State survivors. A welcome addition to any collection of early United States silver, and the coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
