The obverse of the medal features an allegorical figure of Columbus holding a map and dividers, surrounded by the inscription CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS and the dates BORN 1456 DIED 1506. The detailed engraving showcases period Renaissance costume and cartographic instruments within an ornamental border. The reverse displays an elaborate scene of Columbia seated with a child, representing the Old World teaching the New, set against a dramatic sunburst radiating over a detailed view of the exposition's grand architecture. The legend reads CHICAGOU.S.A. 1892-1893 SOUVENIR WORLD'S FAIR with the additional notation 1492-1892 IV CENTENNIAL below the architectural scene.
