This 1904 5 Roubles gold coin was struck at the St. Petersburg Mint during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia. Issued just as the Russo-Japanese War began, this coinage represents the final decade of Imperial Russian monetary tradition before the upheavals that would transform the nation. The 5 Roubles denomination served as a practical gold circulating issue throughout the empire.

The obverse presents a finely engraved left-facing portrait of Nicholas II with the Cyrillic legend identifying him as Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia. The portrait displays sharp detail in the hair and beard with bold definition throughout. The reverse features the impressive Imperial double-headed eagle bearing the coats of arms of the Russian territories, crowned and holding orb and scepter, with the denomination and date rendered in clear Cyrillic below.

Certified by ICG at MS-66, this example exhibits excellent luster with well-preserved surfaces and strong device definition throughout both sides. The strike is bold and the fields display attractive, consistent character appropriate to the grade. Russian Imperial gold issues remain sought after by collectors of world gold coinage, and examples at this level represent desirable preservation.
