Only fifteen original 1804 silver dollars are known, which puts the era's classic Liberty portrait out of reach for nearly every collector. For the nation's 250th anniversary, the Mint narrowed a list of 21 historic coins to five Best of the Mint selections. This set is the fourth release in that series, pairing a 24-karat gold 1804 dollar struck at West Point with a Philadelphia silver medal. Quantities are limited, and complete sets that survive intact in top grades are the ones collectors chase first.

The gold coin shows Draped Bust Liberty facing right, her long hair bound by a ribbon and flanked by 13 stars. LIBERTY and the date 1804 frame the portrait, while a Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral 250 notes the semiquincentennial. The reverse carries a heraldic eagle with raised wings, a United States shield on its breast and E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll in its beak. Thirteen arrows fill one talon and an olive branch the other, under clouds and 13 stars, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the rim. The edge keeps the original HUNDRED CENTS ONE DOLLAR OR UNIT inscription, and the 2026-dated silver medal answers with a modern Liberty design.

NGC graded each piece SP-70, the top of the Specimen scale, meaning no post-production flaws are visible at 5x magnification. The gold shows even, untoned surfaces and a bright satin finish, while the silver medal keeps its frosted devices sharp against smooth fields. A perfect grade on both halves, paired with NGC First Day of Issue labels, separates this set from ordinary examples. For those seeking a flawless, matched presentation of the 250th Anniversary designs, this pairing delivers. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
