1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS or NGC MS-63
The CC mintmark on these 1883 Morgan Dollars traces straight back to the Comstock Lode silver that fed the Carson City Mint, and collectors have chased that two-letter mark for well over a century. Each is a United States legal tender silver dollar struck at Carson City in 1883, weighing 26.73 grams of .900 fine silver for roughly 0.7734 troy oz of actual silver content. These are certified Mint State 63 by PCGS or NGC, and the holder shown represents the grade and quality you can expect.
The obverse carries George T. Morgan's left-facing Liberty head, crowned with a Phrygian cap and a wreath of cotton and wheat that nods to both the agricultural South and the farming West. LIBERTY appears on the coronet band, E PLURIBUS UNUM arcs above, and thirteen stars frame the portrait with the 1883 date below. The reverse presents a heraldic eagle with wings spread, clutching arrows and an olive branch, encircled by a laurel wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR around the rim, In God We Trust above the eagle, and the small CC mintmark tucked beneath the wreath bow.
Carson City operated for only a short span and produced a fraction of the Morgan output that Philadelphia and New Orleans did, which is exactly why CC dollars remain the most recognized mintmark in the entire series. The 1883-CC is among the better-preserved Carson City dates thanks to bags that sat untouched in Treasury vaults for decades, so examples at the MS-63 level show strong central detail and bright, frosty luster. If you are building a Morgan Dollar set or adding certified Carson City silver to a holding, 1883-CC dollars in Mint State are one of the most liquid and widely traded options available.
