2026 1/4-oz American Gold Eagle

The American Gold Eagle is the official gold bullion coin of the United States, and the quarter-ounce issue puts that program within reach of smaller purchases. Each holds a full quarter troy ounce of fine gold, with weight and purity backed by the U.S. government. The 22 karat alloy adds copper and silver, which makes these hard enough to take handling and storage that would mark a softer coin. Struck at West Point, they carry a $10 face value as legal tender. Orders ship Brilliant Uncirculated in protective flips, or in sealed Mint tubes of 40 on larger quantities.

The obverse carries the Augustus Saint-Gaudens Liberty, striding out of a burst of sunrays with a torch raised in one hand and an olive branch extended in the other. The Capitol dome sits low behind her, and the 2026 date is set into the field at her right. The reverse holds Jennie Norris's close portrait of a bald eagle, sculpted down to individual feathers and the ring of the eye. Relief runs high for a bullion strike, so the drapery and rays catch light against the open fields. The edge is reeded.

Quarter-ounce Eagles let a holder sell a small amount of gold without breaking into a larger position, which is why so many buyers keep them alongside full ounces. Recognition does the rest. Dealers know the design and the weight on sight, so these move quickly on the buyback side and rarely need authentication. The program has run without interruption since 1986, and that continuity is part of why any precious metals dealer in the country will quote on them. Stack them in tubes or keep a few in reserve; the resale market is deep either way.
