1800 Lima, Peru 8 Escudo NGC AU-55

This 1800 8 Escudo from the Lima mint represents one of the finest examples of Spanish colonial gold coinage from Peru during the reign of Charles IV. Struck at the Lima mint under the supervision of assayer IJ, this substantial gold coin was part of the Spanish Empire's extensive colonial monetary system that facilitated trade across the Americas and beyond.
The obverse displays a finely engraved portrait of King Charles IV facing right, adorned in royal regalia with the legend surrounding the bust. The reverse features the elaborate Spanish coat of arms crowned and flanked by the Pillars of Hercules, with the mint mark and assayer's initials clearly visible. The coin exhibits well-struck devices with bold detail throughout both sides.
Certified AU-55 by NGC, this example shows light circulation wear while retaining much of its original luster and strong eye appeal. The surfaces display attractive golden toning with even wear patterns typical of the grade. Colonial Spanish gold from Peru remains highly sought after by collectors specializing in world gold and Spanish colonial issues. The coin pictured is the exact coin you will receive.
