The “O” mint-mark of the New Orleans, Louisiana Mint was the first mint-mark ever struck on a U.S. coin. With that branch mint shutting down in 1909, the 2021-O Morgan Silver Dollar is a rare opportunity to acquire a coin with the “O” made famous by the historic New Orleans Branch Mint.
With that mint no longer operating, a limited run of 175,000 of these large, .858-oz. (.999-fine) silver dollars was struck at the Philadelphia Mint with the New Orleans privy/mint-mark as one of the six 100th Anniversary 2021 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars.
